As few working class, immigrant households would have had their own televisions in post-war Toronto, movie theatres served as an important centre for news updates and entertainment for residents of the Market. The La Salle Theatre, located at 526-528 Dundas near Spadina in the late 1930s until the early 1970s, was a popular destination, even handing out free dishes some nights to attract audiences.
